I have just recieved some pre opening photos of Vakkaru. This gem of an island has indeed potential for becoming a nice resort!
Vakkaru is located in the UNESCO biosphere Baa atoll. You can reach it by a scenic sea plane ride in just 25 minutes, from the sea plane terminal at Velana airport. It has just opened!
It is a solid 5-star resort with a nice lagoon and a fringing house reef. It has 125 bungalows and villas, 4 restaurants and 3 bars.

The pool area:
Like all resorts in the Maldives there is always a spa. At Vakkaru you can get a diversity of treatments in the The Merana spa, which is located above the water:
There is also a gym where you can get some exercise while you can watch the stunning lagoon:
The island is also blessed with a house reef that runs all around the island. You can see some photos from it in the slideshow below.
As mentioned earlier, the resort is not open yet. It will be exciting to read reviews in the close future. It will get tough competition from loads of established 5-star resorts in this category. But on the other side, it does seem like a lovely island; and my guess is that it will be a popular resort.
I have been given permission to use the photos from my friend Michaela (Thank you!) She has just recently been on a pre opening visit, as she is working in Reiseagentur Reisser in Germany. We have no professional strings, and I am not paid to do this blog post.
